Careers · Mount Wellington, Auckland

Fix the cold. Beat the damp. Cool the summer.

We're a locally based crew that puts heat pumps, ducted systems and ventilation into Auckland homes and businesses. Our customers say we turn up on time, explain things in plain English and leave the place tidy. We're looking for people who already work like that, or want to learn how.

The standard

What customers notice is what we hire for

You can't fake a good reputation in Auckland. Read what our customers say about us and the same few things keep coming up. This is the bar you'd be joining.

We do what we said we would

Quotes that match the job, install dates that hold, and a team that shows up when it said it would. It sounds basic, and customers still mention it.

We measure properly before we quote

One customer watched our consultant spend about 40 minutes measuring the whole house before recommending a ducted system size. That's how a design and quote should start.

We leave it tidy, and we show you how it works

Customers notice clean installs, and they notice the walkthrough afterwards. A system isn't finished until the person living with it knows how to use it.

We solve the actual problem

Sometimes it's a cold lounge. Sometimes it's a damp house with streaming windows. A good tradesperson works out which, and recommends what's honestly right, even when it's the smaller job.

What the job is really like

A day in the life

Here are two examples of how a day can run. Every job is different, and so is every house, but this will give you the feel of it.

  • Brief and load upCheck the job sheet, the unit model, and anything flagged from the site assessment. Make sure the van has what the job needs before you leave.
  • Walk the site with the customerConfirm where the indoor unit and outdoor unit go, how the pipework will run, and what the customer is expecting. Surprises get sorted before drilling starts.
  • The installMount, pipe, wire, drain, test. Dust sheets down, tidy as you go. For a ducted system, this is a longer, more involved job with the whole team.
  • Commission and demonstrateRun the system, check it's performing, then show the customer the remote, settings and filters. Answer their questions.
  • Clean up and sign offLeave the site the way you'd want your own home left. Photos, paperwork, done.
  • Check the day's callsA mix of annual services, fault call-outs and the odd urgent job. Priorities get sorted by the office before you head out.
  • Diagnose first, quote secondWork out what's actually wrong. Is it a clean-and-service job, a repair, or time to talk replacement? Explain it plainly and let the customer decide.
  • Service and repairClean, inspect, test and fix across the major brands we install: Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Haier.
  • Advise honestly"Repair, service or replace?" is a question customers ask constantly. A straight answer builds repeat business.
  • Report backUpdate the job record so the office and the next technician know exactly what was done.

Technicians may also be part of an after-hours call-out roster. We'll explain how it works at interview.

  • Prepare for the home visitReview the enquiry: what rooms, what problem, what the customer has already been quoted.
  • The free home assessmentLook at the house properly. Measure, ask how the family actually uses each space, check the roof and ceiling access for ducted systems.
  • Recommend what fitsDucted suits whole-home comfort, split systems suit targeted rooms, and ventilation might be the real answer for a damp house. Explain the options without pushing the dearest one.
  • Design and quotePut together a clear design and a competitive quote, usually within a day or two.
  • Follow upAnswer questions, hand over to the install team, and keep the customer in the loop right through to install day.
Is this you?

You'll probably like it here if…

We'd rather be upfront now than have either of us find out in week three.

✅ You'll fit right in if you…

  • Take quiet pride in a neat pipe run and a clean finish
  • Can explain a technical thing to someone who isn't technical
  • Don't mind being in a customer's home and treating it with respect
  • Would rather say "I'm not sure, let me check" than guess
  • Want to learn the whole job, from heat pumps and ducted to ventilation

⚠️ It might not suit you if…

  • You prefer to cut corners when no one is looking
  • You don't enjoy dealing with customers face to face
  • You want the same routine every single day (summer and winter peaks get busy)
  • You're not comfortable with crawling through roof spaces or working outdoors in Auckland weather

    Straight answers

    Things people usually ask us

    Do I need HVAC experience?

Not for every role. Our apprentice and assistant position is for people starting out. For installer and technician roles, trade experience (HVAC, refrigeration, electrical or similar) helps a lot, and we'll talk through your background honestly.

    What about pay and hours?

We'd rather tell you than make you guess. Pay, hours and any roster are covered in the first conversation, before you spend time on an interview.

    Where will I be working?

We're based in Mount Wellington and work across Auckland, from the central suburbs through East Auckland to the North Shore and West Auckland. Installers and technicians work on customer sites, and office roles are based at our Mount Wellington base.

Which brands will I work with?

Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Haier, across wall-mounted, multi-split and ducted systems.

    Is there after-hours work?

We offer 24/7 emergency service, so some technician roles involve a call-out roster. We'll explain exactly how it works at interview.

I'm not sure which role fits me. Should I still apply?

Yes. Choose "Not sure yet" on the formcxv and tell us what you're good at. We'll tell you honestly where we think you'd fit.

    Still have a question?

Call us on 0800 110 120 or email info@aucklandairsolutions.co.nz. A real person will get back to you.
